Charlotte happens to be located in a prime spot within driving distance of numerous recreational lakes. If you’re ready to test out your Infiniti’s impressive towing capabilities, consider towing the boat to one of these great destinations:

Lake Lure

Located in Western North Carolina about an hour and 45 minutes from Charlotte, Lake Lure is famous as the setting of the film “Dirty Dancing.” Not only is the lake a gorgeous place to boat, but Lake Lure also features a beach, access to rock climbing, zip lines, and Chimney Rock State Park, which is a great place to take in the views of Hickory Nut Gorge. All watercraft must obtain an annual boat permit to be on the lake, which is issued by the town, and peak boating season runs from the weekend before Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Lake James

Located in Linville, Lake James is a crystal clear lake at the base of Linville Gorge. Otherwise known as North Carolina’s “Grand Canyon,” Linville Gorge features some the purest mountain water you’ll ever see, which makes Lake James such a popular spot for boating enthusiasts. The area is also home to other recreational opportunities, including hiking trails at Linville Falls and a spectacular underground tour at Linville Caverns. Lake James itself offers four state-of-the-art launch ramps, including the Black Bear Access ramp on the west side of the lake.

Lake Norman

This one may not be much of a day trip since it’s only about 30 minutes from uptown Charlotte, but Lake Norman is a massive lake that offers a range of recreational activities. The lake may have a reputation for powerboats and party-goers, but there are also a variety of laidback parks, biking and hiking trails, and peaceful fishing holes. One of the lake’s most popular family-friendly options is Captain Gus Gustafson’s guided fishing adventures. If anyone in your party needs to learn how to fish, this is a tour not to be missed.

Lake Jocassee

If you prefer secluded boating spots, head to Salem, South Carolina. Located about three hours from Charlotte, Lake Jocassee is considered a hidden gem. Out of a 75-mile stretch of shoreline, only one mile is developed, so boaters can enjoy the tranquility of a true mountain lake retreat. Aside from boating, visitors can swim, scuba dive, hike, and fish. In fact, Lake Jocassee is considered to be one of the best trout-fishing lakes in the state.

Lake Rabun

Located in Lakemont, Georgia, Lake Rabun is about three hours from Charlotte and is the perfect spot to escape the city’s summer heat and humidity. Lake Rabun also offers stunning mountain scenery and a rustic charm that keeps boaters coming back every year. Aside from water skiing, swimming, and fishing, the area also offers farmers markets, vineyards, and an artist retreat, making Lake Rabun a special getaway.

When you crave a boating adventure, it’s nice to know you have several options near the Charlotte metro. Ensure your Infiniti is outfitted with a towing package and be on your way to enjoying the outdoors in no time.
