The 2017 Infiniti Q60 was officially announced at the Detroit Auto Show on Jan. 11, 2016. As we wait for the full specs, release date, and price to be unveiled, let’s take a look at what we do know — which is not insignificant. Here is what to expect from the new Q60 and why Infiniti customers will love it.

Signature Infiniti Style

The redesign of the Q60 sports coupe left it a little wider and lower to the ground, with smooth lines and curves as well as deep creases that make its stance more striking. Although the more rounded look is noticeably different than previous iterations, the 2017 model still carries that signature Infiniti style we love — including the company’s double-arch grille and eye-inspired LED headlights.

If you liked the look of the concept car unveiled last year, know that the finalized version of the new Q60 looks largely identical. The most obvious changes are the necessary addition of headlights and side mirrors that meet government regulations.

Interior design varies by trim level. Entry-level models offer a choice between aluminum or black wood. Customers can get carbon fiber accents with a higher trim or, if they choose the eye-catching red or white leather interior, silver glass fiber accents.

Power and Performance

An even bigger change can be found under the hood of the 2017 Infiniti Q60. Every model will include a 7-speed automatic transmission, but customers can choose between two different engines: a 3.0L, V6 twin-turbo engine or a 2.0L direct-injected 4-cylinder turbo engine. With the first, you can choose between 400 hp/350 lb-ft of torque and 300 hp/295 lb-ft of torque. The second gets 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Infiniti estimates the gas mileage for these engines at 22, 23, and 24 mpg respectively.

All models feature a Drive Mode Selector that boasts six settings — plus three more, using the Customize option. Those who opt for the V6 engine can also benefit from Infiniti’s improved Direct Adaptive Steering and new Rack Electronic Power Steering. Changes to the suspension, including relocated shocks and a stiffer crossmember, have further improved the coupe’s performance. Dynamic Digital Suspension is available on the Sport trim.

Innovative Technology

Last but not least, the 2017 Q60 boasts some impressive new technology. The Bose Performance Series audio system with Advanced Staging Technology, which includes 13 speakers, will debut with this model. A flexible doorstop allows for easy entry and exit by holding the door in nearly any position you like.

In addition to the blindspot monitoring and lane departure warning systems on the current Q60, the new model has a pedestrian-detection system that can apply the brakes automatically when needed. Even the returning driver assistance technology has been improved, with alerts via haptic feedback from the steering wheel rather than a beeping noise.

With its freshly enhanced design, performance, and technology, the 2017 Infiniti Q60 will stand out from the pack with no problem. Faithful Infiniti fans will appreciate the improvements. For new customers, the Q60 deftly showcases the attention to detail and dedication to excellence that keep the company on the cutting edge of the market.
