The latest Infiniti coupe made its debut at the North American Auto Show – and it’s safe to say it’s a head turner. At the annual show held each year in the Motor City, the consensus from industry insiders was praise for the bold new direction of the coupe.

Essentially, the concept shares just the 2+2 coupe configuration. Everything else – from the body, to the interior instruments and styling, to the engine – has been updated. The new Q60 is more aggressive looking, and features a stronger, sloping roofline. That’s one reason the car looks sportier, but it’s also slightly wider, longer and slightly lower to the ground. That adds to the cat-ready-to-pounce posterior, which is how Infiniti’s design director described the profile.

Plus, the accents are bolder than previous iterations, dating back to when the coupe was called the G37. For example, the Q60 concept’s front fascia has been completely updated, and now the refined new look up front features surly headlamps and a grated grill, a complete departure from the 2015 model. Also, the Q60’s roofline flows perfectly into the coupe’s sculpted rear-end, which features newly designed tail lamps and a dual exhaust.

One thing is certain: This car is sexier than it’s ever been.

Under the Hood: Updates In Store for Q60 Coupe

Mechanically speaking, the Q60 features an entirely different engine. Currently, the 2015 Q60 coupe features a 3.7-liter V6 – that’s been in production for years. The Q60 concept, on the other hand, features a lighter, smaller engine, which Infiniti is currently making a push to equip the entire lineup with this new line of engines.

In 2016, the Q60 will feature a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6, which is the same engine in Infiniti’s other recently revealed concept coupe, the Q80 Inspiration. The details on this new engine are sparse, and really, the only thing that we know is that it will likely be equipped with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

As for output, Infiniti hasn’t released details, but most industry insiders expect horsepower and torque to be higher than current models, which clocks in at 330-horsepower. In fact, some automotive blogs and publications are speculating that horsepower could ramp up to around 400 horsepower.

Inside the Q60’s Elegant Cabin

Like any Infiniti vehicle, the interior of the Q60 is refined and elegant, while featuring impressive technology. The 2016 Q60 borrows many interior design elements and instruments from the Q50 sedan. That includes a massive, dual-screen LCD infotainment display, which comes equipped with Infiniti’s app technology and navigation.

Plus, there’s an LCD gauge cluster behind the steering wheel that’s futuristic looking. Overall, the interior features polished surfaces, including leather seating and a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel. All the luxury interior details you could expect from luxury coupes like Mercedes C-Class or BMW are available in the Q60.

When Will the Q60 Concept Be Available?

Infiniti continues to refine its vehicles, and that’s certainly true about the 2016 Q60. In fact, Infiniti continues to position their coupe to compete with similar vehicles in the class from BMW and Mercedes. The good news: You won’t have to wait long.

The Q60 concept is expected to go into a production next year in 2016. The exact timeframe isn’t yet available, but since this is a top-to-bottom redesign, Infiniti still has time to tweak the final output. Expect a few changes here and there, but overall, the Infiniti Q60 concept is expected to be fairly close to what the production model will be, Infiniti says. We’ll just have to wait and see.
