The Battle of Sedans: Infiniti vs. BMW
It’s easy to match one vehicle up against another and see that, in one particular instance, one maker can outdo the other. It’s another thing to match up a handful of vehicles from a relative upstart in the luxury automotive world against one of the long-time leaders, and see how they match up. At Lake Norman Infiniti, we feel the Infiniti sedans stack up really well against the models produced by the luxury stalwart BMW – but let’s break it down to the facts.

In terms of amenities, the 2014 Infiniti Q50 and the 2014 BMW 335i are fairly close. The Q50 does come with standard heated and cooled front seats, along with a keyless ignition. These are optional on the BMW 335i. While this might not sound like a big deal, when you consider that the 335i is already $3,500 more expensive before putting the options on, it’s clear that the Infiniti is much better value for comforts.
Looking under the hood, the engines are quite different, but result in similar power numbers. The naturally-aspirated, 3.7-liter engine in the Infiniti puts out 28 more horsepower than the turbocharged BMW does, with nearly identical acceleration times.
One of the clearest advantages comes when you look at the warranty. The Infiniti Q50 is a solid vehicle, and it is backed by a lengthy warranty. The drivetrain is protected for more years, and more miles, than the BMW’s. This means that long after the warranty on the 335i runs out, you’ll still be able to bring the Q50 into Lake Norman Infiniti’s easily-accessible service center for warranty work.

Like with their smaller siblings, the 2014 Infiniti Q70 and the 2014 BMW 535i are fairly close in terms of amenities. Heated and cooled front seats are still standard on the Infiniti, and still optional on the BMW model. The BMW 535i does get standard keyless ignition, but satellite radio is still optional. Once again, the Infiniti also comes in at a lower MSRP, this time with a savings of $3,800 against the BMW.
Capable and Dependable Drivetrain Stays On
Even though the 2015 Infiniti Q70 and Q70L have received an updated design, Infiniti has left the drivetrain the same. In this case, that’s a great thing – the 3.7-liter V-6 is a perky, capable engine, while the 5.6-liter V-8 provides incredible power to make highway driving a breeze. Both engines can be mated with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive systems, while a seven-speed automatic transmission with a manual-shift mode and optional paddle shifters is used across all versions.
The 2014 Infiniti Q70 also is a bit more spacious. While almost all the measurements throughout the cabin are identical, there is a major difference in the front. The extra 3 inches of leg room in the Q70 can make a huge difference, especially if you are headed on a road trip far beyond the Huntersville or Mooresville areas. You can also pack some extra luggage – that extra cubic foot of space is plenty enough for extra shoes and clothing.
Infiniti Beats the Competition
It’s clear that both the Infiniti Q50 and Q70 have significant advantages over their BMW counterparts. Having one model that outdoes its competition can be seen as luck – but having these advantages across an entire line of sedans demonstrates that Infiniti is concentrating on becoming the top luxury car maker.
