One of the sportiest offerings in the midsize luxury sedan class, the Infiniti Q50 has always offered great looks on the outside, solid performance under the hood, and high-quality materials and craftsmanship in the cabin. Never a company to be satisfied, the 2016 Infiniti Q50 has received a number of changes and upgrades for an even better driving experience. So what’s new in the 2016 Infiniti Q50?

Four Available Drivetrain Options

More engine options are available than ever before in this year’s Q50, including:

  • The base 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine that has an output of 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque
  • A twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, from the new VR family of engines, with a standard output of 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque
  • An upgraded, high-output version of the twin-turbo, 3.0-liter V6 engine that is capable of laying down 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque
  • Carried over from last year, a 3.50liter V6 hybrid engine, paired with a lithium-ion battery pack, for 360 total system horsepower and a boost in the fuel economy department.

While the latter engine is paired with a dual-clutch transmission, the 2.0- and 3.0-liter engines are coupled to a seven-speed automatic, and all drivetrains are available paired with front- or four-wheel drive.

Second-Generation Direct Adaptive Steering

The first generation of the Direct Adaptive Steering system was groundbreaking, and after gathering customer feedback and monitoring real-world testing results, the second generation offers advanced steering feel and feedback. Specifically, the adjustments provide a system that feels more like the conventional systems that most drivers are used to, while retaining the effectiveness of the Direct Adaptive system. There is also an increase in ability to customize the system to suit the preferences of the driver, including the ability to adjust the levels of response.

Dynamic Digital Suspension

While the Dynamic Digital Suspension (DDS) is not a new system, it is new to the Infiniti Q50 model, available on the Sport trim levels. The DDS is an electronically-adjustable suspension that features Drive Mode Select, allowing the driver to change the shock absorber response depending on how they plan to drive. Stepping up to Sport or Sport+ modes provides a firmer, more responsive ride with increased agility, and the suspension adjusts immediately to road changes to provide ideal performance and an even, flat ride.

Improved Infiniti InTouch Multimedia System

New to the Q50, the InTouch system features two touch-capacitive screens set in the center console. Utilizing intuitive hand gestures, you can control the available applications, along with the navigation system and more. The best part of heaving two screens is that the system will sort your frequently-used content and functions to feature on the top screen, well less-used options are moved to the lower screen.

More Safety Options

The Technology Package includes Blind-Spot Invention, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Departure Prevention with Active Lane Control. The Driver Assistance Package is available separately from the Technology Package, and features Forward Emergency Braking, Blind-Spot Warning, the Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, and more.
